At the start of the year we looked at the likely impact of ChatGPT on product management and spoke to a number of product experts to get their assessment.

Most were playing with it and assessing the efficiencies it might bring to their work. They also recognised its likely impact on many knowledge-worker and creative roles over time.

They thought it would change what is expected from product managers when it comes to both hard skills and soft skills. They saw product managers using it to automate multiple small tasks in their routines and become more efficient, so that skills like product intuition, stakeholder management and prioritisation become more valued than ever.

We also asked ChatGPT what it thought its impact on product management would be, and the software’s response serves to demonstrate its limitations as well as its potential uses.
